Who We Are

In 2006, Dr. Terrie Briggs and Tim Bridgman opened Banner Literacy with the hopes of helping students who struggled with reading disabilities and other areas of literacy underachievement. Together, Dr. Briggs and Mr. Bridgman have provided dyslexia intervention, writing help, and other services to help students become better readers and writers.

Banner Literacy is dedicated to improving reading and writing abilities for children and students through an innovative, integrated approach tailored for individual success.

Banner Literacy is located on the North Shore, in Wilmette, IL, near Lake and Green Bay Road.

Meet Our Team

Terrie Briggs, Ed.D.

Dr. Briggs was an elementary school teacher at Baker Demonstration School, former laboratory school of National-Louis University, for twenty-five years. She received her Ed.D. in Reading and Language and was a tenured faculty member at National-Louis University. Dr. Briggs has started and supervised various literacy intervention programs in elementary schools, has worked in various clinics in city and rural areas, and has supervised university students who have become reading specialists and classroom teachers. Since 2005, Dr. Briggs has been an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University in the School of Education and Social Policy Graduate School. Dr. Briggs’s literacy expertise extends to adolescent and adult readers as well. In addition, she is a member of The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners.

Tim Bridgman, M.A. Learning Disabilities

Mr. Bridgman is a learning specialist who provides services and interventions to students with dyslexia as well as related reading and writing disabilities. He has helped students in critical literacy areas including decoding, comprehension, writing, and spelling. He received a Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University, emphasizing clinical work in diagnostics and remediation. Mr. Bridgman has over ten years of experience working with students in a variety of settings, is an accredited Learning and Behavioral Specialist (LBS1) and holds a Professional Educator License (PEL). 

Elizabeth Roche, MSEd

Elizabeth graduated from Vanderbilt University’s College of Education and received her Master’s Degree in Teaching from National Louis University. She has spent 17 years teaching at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. Prior to teaching there, she taught for five years at Baker Demonstration School in Evanston. Elizabeth has been a reading tutor at Family Matters and has been a consultant for The Chicago Jewish Day School. She is a member of the Coalition of Schools Educating Mindfully.
